John Dunk


John Dunk has over 30 years’ experience in fire protection. After establishing the European business of Textron Inc. in 1981 their epoxy intumescent fire protection product Chartek went on to become the world’s leading epoxy intumescent fire protection material and today is the most extensively used product of its type globally.

To establish the new epoxy intumescent technology in the offshore oil and gas market John became involved in the establishment of new test procedures and standards supporting offshore operators, engineers and designers.

Following a long career in passive fire protection and protective coatings, with global responsibility for one of the leading coatings manufacturers, John established PFP Specialists in 2014.

Ian Bradley PhD MEng MSc MIFireE


Ian has many years of practical experience across a range of passive fire protection areas and specialises in aspects of testing for ‘Hydrocarbon’ and ‘cellulosic’ fires, including test design, assessment of test data and liaison with certification issuing bodies.

Ian also initiated the software side of the business and has created various tools for thermal modelling, data analysis and prediction of product performance.

As a member of numerous standards committees Ian is abreast of developments in certification and standards regulations. He participates in:

  • ISO TC92 SC2 and SC4 (including working groups on pressure vessels, divisions and jet fires)
  • CEN TC127 WG1 and WG2
  • BSI FSH 22 (including groups on severe fire scenarios, penetration seals and. steelwork protection)
  • Underwriters Laboratory Standards Technical Panel 263

Ian also is a technical consultant to the Intumescent Fire Seals Association, and a Small Business Standards nominated expert on fire safety committees.

Allan Jowsey PhD CEng MEng FIFireE PMSFPE MASCE


Allan is a Chartered Engineer with over 15 years of experience as a Fire Engineer with his main area of expertise being structural fire engineering.  His experience covers development of fire strategies, simplified and advanced modelling approaches, passive fire protection, regulatory approvals, academic research, participation in international technical committees and standards development bodies in both the commercial infrastructure and oil and gas markets.

He has extensive technical knowledge of heat transfer and structural fire engineering, together with experience of advising architects, consulting engineers, contractors and fabricators around the world on Fire Engineering solutions that meet the needs of their respective approvals regulations with a specific focus on passive fire protection arrangements and optimisation. This has enabled him to develop a good knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, AISC codes, FABIG and oil and gas codes and design guidance documents.

Software Development Team

There are two dedicated software developers in the PFP Specialists team. Martin Greaney RITTech is a Software Developer and Michael McRae is a .Net Developer.

The software team bring experience in a range of languages and platforms, creating web-based and desktop applications in C#, VBA, HTML/CSS, Javascript and JQuery. They have experience in using platforms like Power BI, Power Apps and Azure cloud services, and they also bring industry experience of user interface design, usability, and graphic design.

Business Support Team

PFP Specialists are supported in the areas of HR, administration and finance by a dedicated team.

Associate Consultants

PFP Specialists are supported by a number of Associated Consultants.  These are well known experts in their respective fields and they complement our in-house skill sets in the cellulosic and hydrocarbon industries, with specific focus on product testing and assessment, certification, estimation, corrosion and inspections.

To foster further growth and capabilities PFP Specialists are interested to hear from individuals who have knowledge and understanding of PFP, particularly at an engineering level, in the design and utilisation of PFP for the built environment and the hydrocarbon processing and energy industries. Other capabilities in the areas of evaluation, test and qualification may also be of interest.

What we are offering is the opportunity to discuss Associate Consultant opportunities which would be on a self-employed basis but supported by industry acknowledged individuals with an established track record in a broad spectrum of PFP activities. This may well be active to individuals who are not yet ready to ‘go it alone’ and would welcome the support of an established company.
