John Dunk and Allan Jowsey spoke to the ASFP (Association for Specialist Fire Protection) as part of their Meet the Member series of videos.
They discuss their proudest schievement so far, and delve into the Quantifire software product which includes powerful fire engineering and optimisation features. They also talk about why they became a member of the ASFP and what value they get from their membership.
Dr. Ian Bradley has been appointed as committee manager for ISO TC92 SC2 Fire containment.
This subcommittee is responsible for the development of fire resistance test standards including the ISO 834 and 22899 series. Ian takes over from Bob Berhinig in this role.
The PFP Specialists estimation software offering is today expanded with the launch of QWS – the Quantifire Web Service. This fully automated calculation service provides a faster and simpler way for estimators to get MTOs back quickly. Users upload a file, select the PFP products and settings, and receive the job back to their email inbox in seconds. It is designed to complement Quantifire desktop software by providing a user-friendly and fast experience to handle the simpler jobs, while the Quantifire desktop software handles the complicated jobs, advanced calculations and optimisation needs of advanced users.
QWS also provides an easy way for users to request support from PFP Specialists’ team of experts, allowing transparent pricing to handle drawings, checking and engineering calculations.
Sign up and receive credits for a free job to test QWS for yourself.
The Passive Fire Protection Network (PFPNet) will be holding a 1 hour on-line seminar on 19 April entitled Passive Fire Protection of Tunnels: Requirements and Solutions. The seminar will be hosted by PFPS Director John Dunk and Kees Both, the Chair of the PFPNet Tunnels Technical Subcommittee will present the main technical topic.
The seminar is free to attend and will be held at 2 timeslots during the day, 9 AM BST and 4 PM BST and you do not have to be a PFPNet member to register.
If you would like to join the seminar, please register at www.pfpnet.com.
PFP Specialists have formed an agreement with Sherm Spear to become an Associate of PFPS to assist in introducing and expanding our capabilities in North America and Canada. Sherm has over thirty years experience in passive fire protection, primarily in the oil, gas and hydrocarbon processing industries for both epoxy-based and cementitious PFP materials. Over the years Sherm has worked with most of the major oil, gas and petrochemical companies along with their engineering and product application contractors and therefore has a broad view of the requirements for passive fire protection across the ‘contract chain’.
Sherm is based in Massachusetts and will be responsible for introducing PFPS services and products as well as carrying out direct consulting requirements for the areas he is experienced with. We are extremely pleased to be able to welcome Sherm to PFPS and are looking forward to the opportunity of expanding our services in to new territories.
PFP Specialists Director John Dunk is co-author of a new paper released by the Hydrocarbon Passive Fire Protection Network (PFPNet) on the use of passive fire protection in the oil and gas industry and comparison the fire protection requirements in tunnels. Fires in road tunnels have had a devastating impact in a number of events in recent years, these fires are often very severe creating many difficulties for those carrying out fire and rescue activities.
John worked with co-authors Bart Hendrix of RWS and Micha de Jong of Efectis looking at the benefits of passive fire protection brings to the offshore oil and gas industry and how this relates to road tunnels which are considered to be critical infrastructure around the world.
On 23rd September the Hydrocarbon Passive Fire Protection Network (PFPNet) and the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) launched the Passive Fire Protection Inspector Training Programme with three separate online seminars during the day to capture the various time zones for attendees from around the globe.
PFPS is pleased to announce David Stowers as an Associate Consultant, David is a corrosion protection specialist with over 30 years’ experience of protective coatings, passive fire protection and thermal insulation application, inspection and specification. His experience has been largely gained in the oil and gas industry (both offshore and onshore) and more recently in offshore wind and FPSO new-build projects. He has worked with leading protective coating contractors (from hands-on application, supervision and inspection to more managerial roles), international coating manufacturers, world-class project client teams and EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors.
He is a Certified NACE Level 3 coating inspector and qualified instructor of the NACE Coatings Inspector Programme. David holds both a BA(Hons) degree and a BEng (Hons) degree and has studied corrosion engineering at post-graduate level and has extensive experience in the development and delivery of quality training programs.
